I’m only bringing an Osprey Farpoint 40L bag, so I need to be conscious of what I’m taking. I have a list on my phone where I continue to add and cut things.
Do I need 3 tees and 3 tanks? Or can I get away with 3 tees and 2 tanks, and just wash more? Do I need a utilitarian pair of pants and a comfy pair? Or just stick with the utilitarian pair? What about a jacket?
I’m trying not to overthink this too much, I normally travel with one bag but haven’t done anything longer than a month. This trip is indefinite so I want to plan for contingencies without overpacking unnecessary items.
Things I Don’t Think I’ll Need
Travel Router
I’ve been seeing this recommended, but I still don’t see the real need for it. I can have a browser VPN. I can connect my devices to my room’s wifi. I’m not planning to do hotels that can cap the number of devices on the wifi. Even if that happens I just have a phone, Kindle and laptop.
New Smartphone
I wanted to get a camera for this trip and decided against it in favor of getting a new smartphone. But my Pixel 8 works just find and the camera is good enough. I don’t think I’ll see a dramatic difference getting a different phone. And I’m also not a pro photographer, I just want photos to remember things.
More than 1 Charger and Cable
I’m bringing 1 Anker charger that can do my laptop. I’ll also use it for my phone and Kindle. Doubt I need to charge the two at the same time. And the kindle barely needs to be charged.
iPad
I really wanted to bring my ipad because I prefer reading articles on it versus my phone, but I don’t need to lug around an ipad and a laptop because of my reading preference. The phone is much easier to carry around daily. Otherwise I’d have to bring out my day bag just to take the ipad.
Things I Do Think I’ll Need
Keyboard, Mouse, Laptop Stand
I prefer standing to work and hopefully can figure out how to accommodate that while I travel. At home I just put my laptop stand on some cardboard boxes on the counter. With the laptop being on a stand I also need a mouse and folding keyboard. These are things I use daily, just makes working more comfortable.
Portable Fan
I hate being hot and not having air circulating in a room. I have a feeling overseas accommodations will lack A/C and fans, so I’d rather just have my own.
